About

I’ve dedicated Abandoned Mines AZ to exploring Arizona’s overlooked but vibrant and exciting mining past. I am an avid hiker and off-roader with a unique interest in exploring Arizona’s abandoned mines and mining ghost towns. As an Arizona mining historian and public historian, I’ve researched, written, and presented Arizona’s mining history. I’ve explored hundreds of Arizona’s mines and, through my travels, have documented them through photographs.

I’ve created this site in hopes of sharing this fascinating history with others, so you can learn about Arizona’s lesser-known but fascinating mining history. When possible, I also share locations and directions so you too can explore these mining landscapes to better understand and connect with this history.

When visiting mining sites, please be aware that they may be under claim or even patented. Rules and laws come along with each of those. It is always best to assume a mine is under claim and never mine or take rocks, minerals, and objects without the owner’s permission. Also, in general, be kind and respectful. Many of these historical sites have a limited life and are delicate. Please do not trash or destroy objects and structures. Leave not a trace so others too can enjoy these places.

Be Safe

BE SAFE: many of these sites contain open shafts and dilapidated structures. Also, many mining sites and ghost towns are in the middle of nowhere. Bring proper supplies, and do not go alone. Do not enter any underground workings without appropriate permission, knowledge, and supplies.

This site is a work in progress, meaning I will be continually adding new mines and locations. Follow me on social media to stay up to date when I make further additions, and feel free to contact me at azmininghistorian@gmail.com or through social media.
