Golden Turkey Property

You can find the Golden Turkey Mine Property within Prescott National Forest on the west side of Turkey Creek. Theising discovered the mine in 1900, and it produced gold, silver, lead, and copper from 1923 to 1949. The NPS considered the pictured assay house for the National Registrar of Historic Places, but vandals burned it in 2006. The Golden Belt Mine, which connects with the Golden Turkey tunnels, is located only a few hundred feet away.

You can find the pictured secured storage area on the bottom floor of the assay house at the Golden Turkey Property. Possibly used as an assay office and location to store valuable assay equipment and ore samples, the room and accompanying closet have thick, secured doors and barred windows.

The Golden Turkey Property consists of the Golden Turkey Mine and the Golden Belt Mine. While suffering from low metal prices after 1961, the property remained minimally active until 1985.
